Sometimes silence, sometimes dialogue, sometimes music, sometimes alternating, sometimes together, sometimes commenting or digressing: Claude Lelouch's oeuvre, which now comprises 50 feature-length films, is unparalleled in its diversity. As in jazz, Lelouch seems to know no boundaries or blinkers. He varies and improvises around a fixed core, there are solos and arrangements, surprises and excesses.
