Opening Film 2024

73rd IFFMH to open with 'Sharp Corner' by Jason Buxton

On November 7, we will celebrate the official opening of the 73rd IFFMH with the German premiere of 'Sharp Corner', a gripping psychological drama in which a man's midlife crisis takes on unexpected consequences. Canadian director Jason Buxton is expected to attend the Opening Night as our special guest.

With a prominent cast including Ben Foster, Buxton directs a stirring psychological drama about a family man in midlife crisis - with a truckload of black humor and Hitchcock references. The sharp bend in the road that gives the film its title is not just a metaphor, but is located directly in front of the new house of Rachel (Cobie Smulders from 'How I Met Your Mother') and Josh (Ben Foster). The family has barely moved in when a tragic car accident occurs in their front garden. Traumatized by this, Josh does everything he can to prevent further deaths on his property - and ends up in a tailspin himself. Josh's crisis is also the crisis of a man in the middle of his life. And so we experience how the classic conflict of the home invasion story shifts into the subject - with an Oscar-worthy performance by Ben Foster!
