German Film Award 2025

›The Seed of the Sacred Fig‹ by Iranian director Mohammad Rasoulof is a Cannes winner, German Oscar nominee and now nominated in six categories for the German Film Award 2025! The impressively staged political drama is an international co-production between Germany, France and Iran. Mohammad Rasoulof tells a family story from the centre of the political resistance in Tehran in 2022. As the theocracy begins to falter on his doorstep, tensions within the family of his main character Iman become more and more palpable until the situation escalates. The film was also screened at the IFFMH last year and delighted the audience. Our guest at the festival was the actress Mahsa Rostami.

Now we are keeping our fingers crossed for the entire team for the German Film Award. ›The Seed of the Sacred Fig‹ has a chance of winning a Lola in these six categories: Best Feature Film, Best Male Lead, Best Supporting Female, Best Director, Best Editing and Best Screenplay.

The German Film Awards ceremony will take place on 9 May 2025.
