Beginning is online!
Now the competition is (almost) completely online! Until November 22 you can stream Beginning by Dea Kulumbegashvili and vote for the Audience Award.
Kulumbegashvili's debut, to which she also wrote the screenplay with actor Rati Oneli, is a great success: Beginning carries the Cannes 2020 label, has won several awards in San Sebastián and is a Georgian Oscar candidate in the race for "Best Foreign Language Film".
At the 69th IFFMH the film celebrates its German premiere. We are sure that after this "beginning" we will continue to hear from the promising director in the future. Because what Dea Kulumbegashvili conjures up on the screen here is pure cinema magic. Each of the seemingly fixed long takes bubbles with energy and ambiguity. Almost imperceptibly, the Georgian director leads us into a borderline area into which films only very rarely advance.
Filmmaker Carlos Reygadas was also convinced of this magic. He worked on the film as Executive Producer and made his production studio in Mexico City available during the Corona Lockdown. The film music was composed by Nicolas Jaar, whose music we could hear in Pablo Larraín's latest film Ema. So keep your eyes and ears open for this special cinema experience!
