Masterclass: Lynne Ramsay

10.11.2024 14:30

Let yourself be surprised by unusual perspectives, new experiences and emotions. The IFFMH celebrates dialogue. We will talk about more than just films with our two guests of honor. We will talk about their attitudes, their commitments, their motivations, their entire body of work. And of course you, the audience, will be invited to ask any questions that might interest you.

For all their stylistic diversity, there are clear continuities among Lynne Ramsay's films. To borrow an image from the world of music, her films can be understood as variations on a common theme. Both within individual films and her filmography as a whole: her works speak to each other across an interval of 18 years. Consider the endings of 'Ratcatcher' and 'A Beautiful Day' or the motif of water in these two films. What does she think about these continuities? Specifically: What is the significance of music in her work? Or of the indirect nature of her storytelling? We will also talk about her fascination with trauma. And we will discuss the role of childhood and how she elicits such extraordinary performances both from young actors and from international stars. Of course, we will also take a look at her upcoming projects.

Directly before the masterclass, you will have the opportunity to see Lynne Ramsay's sensational debut film 'Ratcatcher', which won a BAFTA Award, in the same building.

[The masterclass will be held in English. Admission is free.]
