Video installation: 30 minutes, continuous loop
Hyper-feminine goddesses cavort in CGI landscapes and dream-like architectures. In the computer-generated video work by Irish artist duo Bassam Issa Al-Sabah and Jennifer Mehigan, mega-women reflect on their deepest desires and fantasies in a series of monologues that are simultaneously poetic, profound and banal. Their almost brutal hyper-femininity refers to a world in which “hotness” is synonymous with power - with global warming being the logical consequence.
Visually, the two artists draw on pop culture, computer games and the world of mythology. They juxtapose female bodies and landscapes - a common motif in feminist utopian literature. The Wavehouse exhibition venue - a future Heidelberg IT server farm and the largest 3D-printed building in Europe - surrounds the installation as a sculpture in its own right, underlining how the digital takes shape as analog reality.
On Saturday, 9 Nov, at 4:30pm, curator Lena Reitschuster will give an introduction to the work. This will be followed by a joint tour of the Wavehouse. The introduction will be in German.
