A house in the wilderness, first love, and toxic masculinity. Along with stunning images and surely the best playlist of the year!

17-year-old Jeff travels with his best friend’s family to the remote forest cabin owned by Blake, a friend of the father’s friend. Blake is a famous director and therefore an idol for Jeff. Whether he is also fit to be a role model, however, is soon very much in doubt. And then there’s Aliocha, his friend’s sister, with whom Jeff falls in love.

Coming of age as a twisted Bildungsroman: in the cramped forest hut, the young characters must be very careful not to be corrupted by the morally shambolic adults. That said, the wilderness of Quebec, with its mountains and raging rivers, awaits them with even greater challenges.

Director

Director Philippe Lesage, from Quebec, started out making documentaries. He develops his autobiographically slanted films in close collaboration with the actors. ›Who by Fire‹ won the “Grand Prix for Best Film” in the Generation 14plus section at the 74th Berlinale.
