A milestone of US cinema as well as a key work of feminist filmmaking.
Barbara Loden’s directorial debut and only feature as a director was neglected and ignored for decades. Today, however, it is considered one of the most important films of the 1970s. Wanda, played by Loden, leaves her husband and loses custody of her children. Alone, she wanders through poverty-stricken Pennsylvania. Time and again she gets involved with men who only take advantage of her, one of whom eventually involves her in a bank robbery. Trained at the legendary Actors Studio, which was committed to Method acting, Loden was one of the defining actresses of the 1960s and ’70s. ›Wanda‹ is the jewel in her legacy.
