Cannes prize-winner and German Oscar candidate! Director Mohammad Rasoulof tells a family story from within the political resistance in Tehran.

Iman works for the Iranian judiciary. His promotion to investigator at the Revolutionary Court coincides with the wave of political resistance in 2022. He keeps the fact that his job now also involves signing death sentences a secret from his daughters. As the theocracy begins to tremble outside his doorstep, tensions within the family also escalate. When his gun suddenly disappears, Iman suspects that one of his daughters is behind it. And he resorts to drastic measures.

With an unflinching gaze and partly using genuine cell phone footage, Rasoulof tells a political parable of tremendous explosive force. A movie that will resonate for a long time.

Director

Mohammad Rasoulof is one of the most important voices in Iranian cinema. His films, which are critical of the system, are often made under the most difficult conditions. He has been the recipient of two awards at Cannes. In 2020, he received the top prize at the Berlinale. ›The Seed of the Sacred Fig‹ is the German submission for the upcoming Oscars.
