In September 1959, the 14-year-old Priscilla Beaulieu meets Elvis Presley, who is ten years her senior, in Bad Nauheim, Hesse. To the chagrin of her parents, the teenager falls in love with the “King” and coaxes their permission for her to move to Graceland. - Sofia Coppola adapts Priscilla Presley’s memoir in tones that are delicate on the surface but in fact conceal a crystal-clear and uncompromising look at the truth. Evoking a close emotional kinship to the sisters in ›The Virgin Suicides‹, to Charlotte from ›Lost in Translation‹ and to Marie Antoinette, Priscilla is shown as a young woman locked in a gilded cage, imprisoned by a patriarchal system. Jacob Elordi (›Euphoria‹) and Cailee Spaeny, who received the award for Best Actress in Venice, shine as mismatched soulmates. A bittersweet love story suspended in time.
