Left alone and without direction, a young man threatens to lose his way. A skillful symbiosis of character study and social portrait by the latest young voice from Georgia at the IFFMH!

18-year-old Sandro lives with his atheist grandmother. His deeply religious father wants to join a monastery to become a monk and his mother is abroad. Largely left to his own devices, Sandro is completely insecure – not least sexually. His inability to find his moral bearings soon puts a strain on his relationship with his girlfriend Tina. He becomes susceptible to dangerous ideologies. Only when Sandro meets Natalia, the mother of a new friend from his soccer team, does a door seem to slowly open up for him.

A character study of a young man’s problems gradually becomes a portrait of an entire society in this intelligent, multi-layered, and always surprising film about a society caught in a struggle between ultra-conservativism and progressive ideas.

George Sikharulidze was born in Tbilisi and went to study film in New York at the age of 18. Several of his shorts have screened at international festivals. His debut feature ›Panopticon‹ garnered a lot of attention upon its world premiere at Karlovy Vary this year.
