With hilarious and original results, director Marielle Heller explores the challenges of motherhood and female identity.

Although she loves her son, the nameless young mother (Amy Adams) feels exhausted and isolated. She used to work as an artist and curator in the city, until she, together with her husband, decided to stay at home with their child in the suburbs. But the same old routine of changing diapers, cutting bananas, and visiting the playground proves increasingly frustrating. The other mothers in the baby book club also don’t offer her a way out. It is only when one day something primal and wild is awakened in her that she opens the door to freedom.

In her films, director and screenwriter Marielle Heller – who also has experience in front of the camera – brings out the best in her actors. Actors who appeared in her last two films have received Oscar nominations, including Tom Hanks and Melissa McCarthy. Amy Adams in ›Nightbitch‹ is the latest example to prove the rule.
