What must a woman do to gain recognition in a male-dominated world? This exciting feminist film offers an extremely provocative answer.
High Tide is at once a thriller and a social drama. It plays with our expectations and generates a creeping danger that reaches an unbearable pitch. And it asks what it means for a woman to be free. Which weaknesses can she allow herself in front of men? What limits must she set?
Laura's holiday home is getting a new barbecue area. After she has a one night stand with the foreman, she is treated with contempt. The workers become disrespectful and abusive. At first she’s unable to stop them. Little by little, however, she gains the courage to defend herself. In a film that lets different classes and gender conceptions collide, Verónica Chen takes us to the limits of morality. Among the strengths of this excellently cast and magnificently shot film is its refusal to provide unambiguous answers to the many questions it raises.
