Everything goes wrong when Paco meets his girlfriend's family – and a classic slapstick comedy turns into a crazy meditation on the social situation in Mexico.

Luisa introduces her new boyfriend to her parents. Paco is an actor in the hit series Narcos and although he doesn’t have a speaking part yet, the men of the family members ask him to act out a scene for them. His silent rendition, all cool poses and grim looks, exposes narcoculture as an absurd performance of masculinity.

Director Nicolás Perada does not represent Mexico’s everyday violence, but instead focuses on its influence on pop culture and the national unconscious. The narrative, as comic as it is absurd, soon gets lost inside a book that Luisa's brother is reading and is turned into a mysterious film noir before our very eyes. The imaginative screenplay, in the tradition of Charlie Kaufman, is playful and at the same time sharply critical. Fauna portrays a country where reality can quickly catch up with fiction.
