A wholly improbable romance faces up against all worldly odds, captured in images of extraordinary power and invention. Cinema of soaring emotions.

Xia Yo is a wealthy, engaged businesswoman, Xu Zitai is a street vendor and day laborer from the most humble of backgrounds. She is exhausted and frustrated, he is disillusioned and cynical. And yet, they both see something in each other from the moment they meet. The air crackles. It is the beginning of a great love, up against all the odds that the world can throw at them. Firstly, there is her violent fiancé, who follows her everywhere. Then there is Xu Zitai’s inexorably advancing illness – and his refusal to seek treatment.

In images of stunning beauty and extraordinary invention, ›Bound in Heaven‹ tells an incredibly fresh and authentic story of intense emotions, leaving aside all kitsch. It is only at the very end that the film deliberately leaves all burdens behind.
